Many people wonder how to remove wallpaper and fall victim to the countless number of home improvement myths out there. This is a common misconception, which are commonly found in many home improvement publications, over the internet, and even in the real world! The fact is that there are many different ways in which you can remove wallpaper without damaging your walls. We have spent countless hours researching this topic for you and have come up with some great advice to help you with removing wallpaper. There are three main ways that you can remove wallpaper yourself without too much trouble.
The first method that we will discuss is using a Paint Scraper or Vacuum. You will need to have at least one of these handy whilst conducting your research on how to remove wallpaper. Firstly you should gather all the tools that you will need. You will require a pair of gloves, a paint scraper, a drop cloth, a sponge, a scraper blade, some old wallpaper, sponges, and an abrasive material such as sandpaper. You will also need a non-abrasive solvent such as dish washing liquid and alcohol to clean the old wallpaper.
In order to remove wallpaper, the best way is to scrape it away from the walls with the scraper blade and then rub off the excess paint using the alcohol. The alcohol will effectively cut through the glue that holds the wallpaper in place and therefore allowing it to come off. Do not try to scrape at the whole thing at once as you risk doing more damage than good.
The second method of wallpaper removal is to use a scoring tool. Score the area using a scoring tool which is typically a metal scoring tool made from stainless steel. Score the area to remove as much of the wallpaper as possible and then dip the scoring tool into the solution which contains the paint. Holding the tool over the damaged area you then score down the wall until it is level with the surrounding surface. Do not try to score a completely smooth out line as this will leave rough edges which may prove to be more difficult to remove.
Scrapbooking is another option for removing peel and stick wallpaper types. To begin, remove the peel and stick by holding it against the wall directly behind it. This will loosen the paper from the wall. Score the wall to remove it but be sure to score just deep enough to cut the paper. After you have scored the paper, dip the scraper blade into the removal solution to allow the solution to permeate through the paper.
Once the paper is wet, the scoring tool will move downward into the glue and loosen it from the wall. Score again to remove the remaining glue. Scrape the remaining paper onto your scraper to remove the scrap. Repeat these steps to remove any other pieces of paper that may be attached to the wallpaper type.
Using a steam cleaner, soak all the areas that were missed with the cleaner. Remove as much of the glue that remained with a steady stream of water until there is no more glue. Using your new scrap metal scoring tool, scrape away the rest of the wallpaper from the walls using long, even strokes. A steam cleaner can make this process go much easier.
By using these methods for removing wallpaper border, you can ensure that your walls remain intact for many years to come. If you find yourself in this situation and do not have time to hire a professional, try these techniques at home. They are simple and easy to do, require little to no damage to your walls and will save you the cost of replacing the items. Before you know it, you will have beautiful looking walls without the hassle of removing them.
